Vince Rugari: “Well, that was a rollercoaster. The Matildas took a while to settle into the first half but looked good once they did, and had the better chances in the early exchanges, and but for a little bit of extra polish would have gone ahead.
“But China ramped up the pressure from around the half-hour mark onwards and should have taken the lead when Wang Shanshan was wrongly called offside. She was through on goal with nowhere near her! The Steel Roses have every right to be filthy with that call – and Shanshan went close again just before the half-time whistle with that cracking shot from distance that hit the crossbar.
“On that evidence, if I’m Ante Milicic and someone offers me a draw at the break, I’m biting their hand off. The Matildas look a little shaky and that’s got to change if they are going to take the easy road to Tokyo 2020.”
