The television host posted an upbeat statement online confirming he was one of the 9298 New Yorkers newly diagnosed with the disease but said he would continue broadcasting his show from the basement of his home where he is quarantined.
“I just hope I didn’t give it to the kids and Cristina,” he said. “That would make me feel worse than this illness!”
Governor Cuomo, who has shot to global prominence with his frank, clear and rousing daily media briefings, said his brother would be fine.
“He’s smart, he’s social distancing but you wind up exposing yourself [if you go out],” he said.
But Cuomo warned things could have been far worse, as just two weeks ago his brother had invited their elderly mother to stay, worried she would be isolated by the lockdown.
“If my brother still had my mother at his house…out of love and comfort…chances are she may very well have been exposed and then we would be looking at a different situation than just my brother sitting in his basement for two weeks,” Cuomo said.
“Love sometimes needs to be a little smarter than just reactive,” he added.
