Powerball rises to $8 million prize

A life changing amount of money is up for grabs as the Powerball offers a division one prize of $8 million for Thursday’s draw.

If someone takes out tonight’s prize, they will be the first Powerball winner to scoop up the prize this year.

In 2020, the Powerball jackpot sat at $8 million 14 times.

It was most recently won on New Year’s Eve by a Wagga Wagga woman who discovered the news shortly after midnight.

“I was with some friends after midnight, and I was just trying to find something in my bag. I saw my ticket and thought maybe the results were out,” she said.

“I checked the ticket on the app but initially didn’t (know) how much I’d won. I had to get my friend to check. It’s just unbelievable.”

Bronwyn Spencer, The Lott spokeswoman, said the winner from regional NSW wouldn’t be the only one kicking off 2021 with a bang if someone took out tonight’s division one prize.

“It’s not too late for your 2021 plans to change if you score $8 million in tonight’s Powerball draw,” she said

“While it has been an interesting year already for many, there is no doubt that an extra few zeros in your bank account would make it bigger and brighter than ever.”

Powerball $20 million jackpot winning numbers

Five lucky Aussies are now millionaires after winning tonight’s mammoth $20 million Powerball Superdraw.

The winning numbers for tonight’s draw are 38, 13, 2, 32, 3, 37, with supplementary numbers 36 and 29.

Five winners will share in the top prize, with each winning ticket holder taking home $4 million.

There were 134 winners in the second division prize pool, with each person taking home more than $11,000.

It’s the second huge lottery draw of a double-whammy week which saw a $20 million draw on Thursday.

The Powerball jackpot has reached $20 million only a handful of times this year. Last week’s jackpot reached $8 million.

The winning numbers for Thursday’s Draw 1268 (September 3) were revealed to be 1, 3, 9, 13, 17, 23, 32 and the Powerball was 19.

Just last month, a young man from Sydney’s west pocketed $20 million playing Powerball.

The Liverpool resident, who wished to remain anonymous, vowed to share his winnings.

While he said he planned to spoil himself “a little”, he also said he had no immediate plans to quit his job to enjoy his millions.

“There’s certainly a lot to think about. I want to save some for the future and invest some too,” he said.

“I don’t know what I will do with work. I could take it easy or work harder.

“But one thing is for sure, I will certainly be taking some time off to enjoy life as a multi-millionaire.”

In July, one lucky Victorian won the entire $80 million jackpot, after a North Sydney woman was shocked to discover her $50 million Oz Lotto prize in the same week.

To be in the running for Powerball prizes, punters choose their favourite seven numbers and a Powerball number.

There are nine prize divisions in Powerball. You can win a prize with as little as two winning numbers plus the Powerball number in a single game. But to win the division one jackpot, your entry needs to match all seven winning numbers plus the Powerball number in a single game.

Tickets can be purchased at any licensed lottery outlet, online from or via the Lott mobile app.

This week, it was revealed that a western Sydney mother took out the “unbelievable” division one Saturday Lotto prize after switching her numbers for the first time in more than half a decade.

The Penrith woman held one of the two winning entries across Australia in Saturday Lotto draw 4079, with each taking home a staggering prize of $2,558,804.44.

The stunned winner told lottery officials she had purchased her marked nine-game entry online at The Lott.

“This is wonderful. It’s a huge relief,” the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, told a lottery representative.

“I usually check my tickets on Saturday night but I didn’t this weekend. I woke up at 5am on Sunday morning and checked it then.

“It was unbelievable. So much was going through my head. This will change our lives so much.”

She said her luck changed after she decided to mark her entry with different numbers for the first time in six years.

“I play Saturday Lotto every week and I’ve been playing the same numbers for six years,” she said.

“But you wouldn’t believe it, it was a week ago when I decided to change the numbers I’ve been playing for all these years and that’s what won me division one.”

And last Tuesday, one entry also won the entire division one Oz Lotto prize of $12,552,379.

Seven winners also shared the division two prize of $255,944, with each winning ticket holder receiving more than $36,500.

Last month, the prizes were even more stunning, with a young man from Sydney’s west pocketing $20 million playing Powerball while a North Sydney woman was shocked to discover her $50 million Oz Lotto prize.

Powerball Lotto $80 million: Hunt for mystery Victoria winner

Victorians have been urged to check their tickets after one resident took out Australia’s third biggest lottery jackpot of all time last night.

The mystery punter won a staggering $80 million in this week’s Powerball draw – but so far, nobody has come forward to claim the incredible prize.

The player held the only division one winning entry across Australia in Powerball draw 1260, but as the winning entry was not registered to a Tatts Card, lottery officials have no way of contacting them to share the news.

The lucky person shares the title of Australia’s third biggest lottery winner, and it is the second time an $80 million Powerball prize has been won this year, after a Port Macquarie man scored the same amount back in March.

Details of the region where the winning ticket was sold is expected to be revealed this morning if the player has not come forward.

The Lott spokeswoman Bronwyn Spencer said the enigmatic winner might be completely unaware they held the only division one winning entry in the Powerball draw.

“Someone in Victoria could be completely unaware that their life has changed forever, scoring the mouth-watering $80 million jackpot in tonight’s Powerball draw,” she said.

“We are encouraging all Victorian players to check their entries online, via the Lott website or app, or if you choose to visit a store, please practice social distancing. We can’t wait to unite this player with their prize.

“If you do realise you’re holding that multimillion-dollar ticket from tonight’s draw, please call us on 131 868 to begin the process of claiming your prize.”

The division one winner is the sixth Powerball division one winner across Australia so far this calendar year.

It comes hot on the heels of Tuesday’s record $50 million Oz Lotto win, which took almost two days to be claimed.

The unnamed winner was eventually revealed to be from North Sydney and she purchased her entry from Inlet Newsagency, Shop 5, 172 Jacobs Drive, Sussex Inlet.

She revealed it had been the first lottery ticket she ever bought – a case of “beginner’s luck” – which she picked up while on holidays in the picturesque coastal town.

She realised she was the mystery winner after eventually checking her entry online.

After confirming the win with lottery officials, the stunned woman declared that she would “definitely keep working” despite her newly bulging bank account.

The record for the largest single winning Powerball entry is $107 million which was won by a Sydney healthcare worker in January 2019.

Powerball Lotto $50 million jackpot winning numbers

Tonight’s $50 million Powerball jackpot has not managed to score a lucky winner, with the prize boosted to a whopping $80 million for next week’s draw.

The lottery draw 1259 winnings numbers include: 26 – 15 – 16 – 6 – 1 – 21 – 10.

One-in-six Australians are predicted to have gotten their hands on a ticket for the Powerball after the jackpot rocketed to $50 million after last Thursday’s Powerball draw.

The lucky numbers have evaded a winner for four weeks and the jackpot was the third biggest prize offered by any Australian lottery this year.

The last Powerball division one winner was crowned in May when a Logan man won $17 million and planned to break the news to his family by pulling into the driveway in a flash new car.

But the biggest winner of this particular game this year was a Port Macquarie man who pocketed a massive $80 million. The first thing this incredibly lucky winner did was buy his own brand new television.

“We certainly hope he’s enjoying that new TV and the rest of his $80 million prize,” The Lott’s Lauren Cooney said.

“We can’t wait to see where the next Powerball jackpot lands. Will the winning streak continue this Thursday for the Sunshine State or will the Powerball prize light up somewhere else in Australia? We will just have to wait and see.”

Powerball draw 1259 closes at 7.30pm AEST.

Winning the lottery is the stuff of fantasies for most Aussies – but sadly, most of us will never know what it’s actually like.

But if you’ve ever wondered exactly what would happen if you received a life-changing call informing you that you’ve hit the jackpot, the mystery has just been solved.

That’s because Australia’s official lottery provider, The Lott, has just shared a recording of a phone call with a Queenslander who won a division one prize earlier this year.

The unnamed man – who was one of four division one winners – ended up pocketing a staggering total of $1,095,232.87.

In the clip, The Lott spokeswoman Lauren Cooney can be heard asking the man if he’d had the chance to check his online entry to the Saturday draw before confirming he was one of the lucky winners.

The clearly stunned man could respond with little more than a few expletives initially before telling Ms Cooney his “heart is just racing”.

He then told Ms Cooney he had “a good feeling” about the ticket, although he had no idea he had won big before the call.

“Oh, you don’t understand, that’s just amazing … oh my God,” he said.

“That’s just crazy, it made my day. I was actually having a cr*p morning, thank you very much.”

Sole ticket snares $20m Powerball jackpot: Lottery draw 1249

A ticket holder in Victoria has won the $20 million Powerball jackpot.

The winning numbers for Thursday’s draw, number 1249, were 32, 35, 3, 18, 7, 6, 14.

And the Powerball was 2.

One Victorian ticket won the jackpot of $23,686,120.08. Three others won the Division 2 prize of $155,140.10 each.

The Powerball jackpot rocketed to $20 million after going unclaimed for three weeks.

Two division one winners this year have won a combined $140 million.

RELATED: $80 million jackpot winner left in tears

The winner of the last $20 million figure in March last year relied on a serendipitous method to pick his lucky numbers.

“I dreamt of these numbers a few years back and I’ve kept playing them on Powerball ever since and they finally came up,” the winner said at the time.

“I dreamt these numbers about 30 years ago. It was a very vivid dream and I saw every number in plain sight.

“So I thought I’d better play them on the lottery. I didn’t know which game to play but the amount of numbers I saw in the dream worked well with Powerball so I guess that dream paid off.”

Last month, a man from the Port Macquarie region who had been impacted by the drought and devastating bushfires pocketed the entire $80 million Powerball jackpot.

He said he was overwhelmed by the huge windfall and would spend his money on a new television, having always been left with poor reception and minimal access to stations.

“This is huge for my family,” he said.

“We’ve been through a rough trot. We’ve been battling the drought for years and were affected by the bushfires earlier this year.

“With so much going on in the world right now, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed!”

He said the strict social distancing measures wouldn’t dampen his celebrations.

“Actually, I’ve been socially isolating since I retired so I’m pretty good at it,” the New South Welshmen said.

No Australian had ever won an $80 million Powerball prize before, with previous jackpots of this prize being shared.

In addition to the $80 million division one prize, a total of 1,916,815 winners won more than $33.9 million in divisions two to nine. This included five division two winners, who each took home $188,293.35.
